The 30-Day Blogging Challenge, Day 19: A Talent Of Mine

  • Day 19: A talent of yours.

I don’t want to sound big-headed, but when I asked my family what my talents are, I got a whole bunch of answers.

1. Writing

I love to write, and many people have told me that my writing is awesome/funny/creative/great/fantastic. I have had some of my writing published in a magazine (Secular Homeschooling Magazine) and this is my 6th year in the 4-H Creative Writing project. I have lots and lots of ideas for stories, and one of my biggest problems is that I don’t always write these ideas down, so a few days later, I wake up at some weird time like 3 AM thinking,Now what was that story idea I had? Writing is my second favorite activity, after reading, so I get a lot of writing practice.

2. Playing the piano

I like to play the piano, and I am actually decent at it when I pay attention to tempo and dynamics. I think my best song is probably Fur Elise or Harry’s Wondrous World. Last year, I was asked to play Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin at the 4-H Fair’s Music Revue. But I was one of the ‘Wild Cards’, who didn’t win anything really high like Grand Champion. But I didn’t tell you that, OK?

3. Playing softball

My dad says I’m talented at this. I love softball, and it is really the only sport I understand completely. This will be my 9th year of softball, with a year of T-ball (when I didn’t have glasses yet! :P) before that and one more year of softball left. But I don’t really think I’m that great at it. I’m OK at it, but everyone says it is one of my talents. I am very talented at standing in right field, staring up at birds in the sky and then panicking when I see a fly ball coming my way.

4. Being nerdy and weird

Do I even have to explain myself on this one? If you’ve read any part of my blog, you’ll know that I just can’t help but to be nerdy and weird. I know way too many Harry Potter quotes (“The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and must therefore be treated with great caution.” Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, AKA Man of Extreme Brilliance, said that. In the first book. See how nerdy I am?). I can tell you about all sorts of prehistoric beasts (besides mammoths/mastodons, saber-toothed tigers, and Australopithecus), thanks to watching Walking with Prehistoric Beasts far too many times. I can recite the prophecy from the fourth Underland Chronicles book, Gregor and the Marks of Secret, by Suzanne Collins (!), from memory.

5. Making friends

When I was younger, I was a little shy. Now, I’m more outgoing and while I’m sometimes quiet around new people at first, within a few minutes, I start talking to them. I love making new friends, and it is fun to still be friends with people even when they live far away (it’s called emailing/writing letters). I think making friends is one of my talents because I have many friends. Somehow, I don’t scare off people with my nerdiness.

6. Photography

Apparently people like my photography. And I like my photography. And that’s all I have to say about it.

And now, for
