Warning: Characters Are Eaten – Teens Can Write, Too! July 2013 Blog Chain

tcwt-3[1]This month’s prompt is:

“Take any character from one of your books and put them in a therapy session. Write a (short!) scene about what happens. (You can include multiple characters and make it a group therapy session.)”

Me: I’ll do roll call and then we’ll talk about your so-called problems. Is Pete here?

Pete: Uh-huh.

Me: …and George?

George: No.

Me: [Sighs] George! Well, that’s everybody, then.

Pete: Why’d you do roll call for two people?

Me: I don’t know. Because I’m weird, I guess. Why did I give you a convertible in your story?

Pete: I DON’T KNOW, BECAUSE THEN YOU TOOK IT AWAY FROM ME! [Bursts into tears]

Me: There, there. [Attempts to comfort Pete, but is not particularly experienced in the art of comforting penguins]

Pete: AND… AND… AND… YOU SENT ME TO THE ARCTIC WITHOUT A SWEATER!

Me: Pete, you’re the wimpiest penguin I know. Real ones don’t complain about the cold, because they’re used to it.

Pete: [Wipes away a tear] I know. But I’m not a real penguin. I’m only a fictional one and you gave me a house to live in so I’m not used to world outside. Or having my cars taken away.

George: [Has been watching this whole exchange with a raised eyebrow] Wow. You really spoiled him, didn’t you, nevillegirl? That’s the worst that ever happened to him?

Me: Hey, I was fourteen when I wrote that story!

George: You had me baked in an oven and almost eaten, then I got my arm ripped off and stuck back on with frosting!

Me: Whoa, there. [Explains to readers] George is a gingerbread man. I’m rewriting his fairy tale. So what happened to him is totally reasonable.

George: YOUR OTHER CHARACTERS DON’T GET EATEN!

Me: Well, no, but they…

Pete: [Leans over and eats George]

Me: …I’m so sorry, readers.

  1. Charley R says:

*much snorting and cackling is heard before Charley staggers in* “OTHER CHARACTERS DON’T GET EATEN!” . . . would you like to come and visit my head, George? I’m sure we could soon set that little myth to rest.

Anyway, awesome post! Very funny – love how you picked these two! I’d be ashamed to drag anything from my 14-year-old works out into the open!

  2. Fida says:

    Lol! I love this! (:

  3. Hahahaa! 😀 Poor George.
