HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MUSINGS FROM NEVILLE’S NAVEL! It’s hard to believe this here little blog is seven already: If it were a human child, it would have started first grade this fall. That’s so weird to think about.
In honor of this blogiversary, I made a list of seven of the best moments from the past few years. Enjoy!
I mean, duh, it’s obvious. But I really wanted to mention it here anyway! I still remember the night I created it… and how confusing WordPress seemed to me at the time. Um, what?! Now I can practically navigate it in my sleep. I honestly never thought I’d still be blogging seven years from then and I can’t believe that such a small moment would go on to have such an effect on my life. All the things I’ve learned, read, written… not to mention all the wonderful friends I’ve made!
Otherwise known as National Blog Posting Month.
I signed up for this in August 2011, shortly before I did NaNoWriMo for the first time. I think it gave me the confidence I needed to both do NaNo and take blogging more seriously. I’ve only blogged every single day for a month a few times since, but this was definitely good practice.
3. Joining the Teens Can Write, Too! blog chain
I miss this so so much! I found so many cool bloggers through the chain – some of whom no longer blog anymore, sadly. (Which should give you an idea of just how long ago it was!) I participated for the first time in June 2012 and in the three or so years that followed I learned so much about myself as a writer.
4. Being Freshly Pressed
This happened in August 2012 and has never happened since, but I’m still pleased as punch about it. Looking back at that post now, I don’t think it’s the greatest thing I’ve ever written, but it did get me a ton of new followers/friends, so that’s something. I was so proud of myself that day!
5. Meeting Kate @ The Magic Violinist
This was in October 2012! Don’t ask me how I remember the date so precisely, I just do. She commented on one of my Teens Can Write, Too! posts and we struck up a friendship right then and there. It’s bizarre to think that she’s now older than I was when we met: She was twelve (now seventeen) and I was sixteen (now twenty-one). We’ve shared our writing over the years, shared a love of the same books and TV shows, and more. She’s considering going to my school for college and I consider her the little sister I never had. I’m so lucky to know her! Someday we’ll finally meet in person.
Four (!) years later, this post has more views than anything else I’ve written – over of them! It was my first real foray into posts about diversity and representation. Wow, I just skimmed through it and I’d forgotten how long it was!
7. Doing the #LoveMe Challenge
Jumping wayyyy ahead in time, from late 2013 to early 2017, we have #LoveMe, a challenge designed to help you learn to love yourself. Although I previously considered myself a person pretty in tune with what I value, what makes me tick, et cetera, I learned even more about myself this past February, in addition to boosting my self-esteem and solidifying some visions for the future!
Do you have a favorite moment from my past seven years of blogging? And when is your own blogiversary?
