Her Campus Articles I Wrote This Fall

Hey there! This is my fourth semester as a member of Her Campus at the University of Iowa’s editorial team and probably my favorite one yet! Today, I thought I’d share with you everything I’ve written these past few months. Enjoy!

What It’s Like To Spend The Summer Apart From Your BFF

The summer after freshman year, we both stayed in Iowa City. This past summer, I left her to study abroad in Ireland. And now she’s leaving me for the spring semester AND next summer to study abroad in Morocco and Ireland! I don’t know what I’ll do without her!

5 Unconventional Goals To Set This School Year

Let’s branch out from the usual goals of maintaining a 4.0 GPA or making the dean’s list! What about goals related to your physical and mental health, such as getting enough sleep and being less rushed?

8 Amazing Bisexual Women You Should Know About

I? Love women?? So goddamn much ?? ??? ? Like wow.

My Mental Health Journey From Freshman To Junior Year

I wanted to write something for Mental Illness Awareness Week, but wasn’t sure what to write until I heard another member of my chapter was writing a letter to her antidepressants and realized a very personal take could be a good way to go. It’s so so important to have a wealth of perspectives on mental health, since no two experiences are exactly alike, and charting my life from 2015 to 2017 was definitely eye-opening… until that moment, I hadn’t quite realized how much progress I’d made!

Prettiest Locations On Campus & In Iowa City During The Fall

I love my campus all the time, but it is truly beautiful during my favorite season!

14 Items College Students Love To Get In Care Packages

Out of all the articles I’ve written during my time in HC, I’m most proud of this one! I asked my friends and classmates for suggestions, then smushed them into one gigantic list. I know a lot of people want to send care packages but aren’t always sure what’s relatively inexpensive and won’t break in the mail, so I would really appreciate if others shared this article around to help people find some good options for their favorite student to receive!

The Perfect Spotify Playlist For Every Type Of Study Session

As a self-proclaimed Spotify addict, I always have something playing in the background while I work (and while I relax, too). I trawled through all my saved playlists to compile these recommendations and I’m super happy with the result!

What Her Campus Iowa Is Thankful For

This article was super easy to write… which is why I volunteered to do it! It’s a collection of what all our members are most grateful for this year!

What It’s Like To Live In The Dorms As An Upperclassman

I don’t know about other countries, but in the US almost every college freshman lives in a dorm, while upperclassmen generally share apartments or houses. I wanted to not only talk about what my experience has been like but also make the point that, although there aren’t very many of us, there are still more than you might think!

How & Why To Keep A Gratitude Journal

Starting one was probably the best decision I made in 2017. I’ve since fallen out of the habit due to being busy and overwhelmed, but I miss it more than I can say and can’t wait to get back into it.

Holiday Gift Ideas For Book Loving Collegiettes

I purposely chose books by and/or about women! Feel free to hit me up for more recs if you need help finding gifts for people in your life!

What I Wish I’d Known About Finals Week As A Freshman: A Letter To My Younger Self

I’m a very nostalgic person. The older I am, the more I realize what a double-edged sword that can be: It’s easy to lose oneself in memories and not pay attention to what is happening right now. Buuuut I’ve figured out that it can also be a wonderful learning opportunity! My judgement freshman year was, shall we say, questionable… but if I recognize that and learn from those mistakes, surely that’s no bad thing?

Do you write for any student publications and/or publications local to your college town? If so, I’d love to hear about it!
