I’m nevillegirl!
(That’s my Internet alias, at any rate – my real name is classified information, I’m afraid. You can also call me Engie. If you want.)
I’m nineteen. But a little part inside of me still loves to pull my old picture books off my shelves and reread them. #nostalgia
Speaking of books, I am a TOTAL BOOKWORM with no fewer than eleven bookshelves in my room. When buying a new purse I have been known to say, “Yes, it’s cute, but will at least two large books fit inside?”
My favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, dystopian fiction, mysteries, and LGBTQ+.
You can find me on Goodreads here.
This fall marks my first semester at the University of Iowa, where I’ve been accepted into the honors program! I plan to double-major in creative writing and journalism, with a minor in gender, women’s, and sexuality studies.
I’m a homeschool graduate! I was homeschooled for the last ten years of my primary/secondary education, and I LOVED it. Having a flexible schedule and more free time gave me so many opportunities to read, write, and spend time on my other hobbies!
Someday I’d like to be an author, a journalist/photojournalist, and LGBTQ+ activist!
I’m super super gay and you’ll see a lot of posts about LGBTQ+ topics (queer characters and their representation in fiction, LGBTQ+ issues in the news, and my personal experiences as a lesbian) on this blog.
I’m an atheist. I want to make that very clear, because a lot of people think all homeschoolers are religious. (There’s nothing wrong with being religious, of course, but it gets really awkward when people just assume that because of my schooling, I must believe a certain thing or belong to a particular group. Secular homeschoolers do exist!)
I’m very short – 5’0″ – with curly brown hair and absolutely terrible eyesight. Hence the glasses.
My home state is Indiana.
I am the queen of procrastination. I should be writing a story right now. But I’m not.
I’m INFP. Apparently. I also identify super-strongly with Slytherin, despite Pottermore’s insistence to the contrary.
I love many genres of music and will listen to just about anything but film scores are my favorite. I ADORE THEM.
I’m in a lot of fandoms! My favorites include Lord of the Rings, Skulduggery Pleasant, Discworld, The Hunger Games, A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones, Sherlock Holmes, and many many more!
You can find me in a variety of other places online – my handle is typically “nevillegirl.”
I started this blog in October 2010 because I had a love for writing and this vague idea that blogging would be fun. It was fun, and I have since spent many hours updating Musings From Neville’s Navel. I am Gollum and it is my precious.
I don’t write about only one thing on this blog. I never have written about only one thing here. My posts talk about anything from books I’ve read recently and photos I took the other day to LGBTQ+ issues and “a day in the life of a homeschooler.”
Well, that’s all I have to say. If you have any questions or remarks, leave them in the comment section below! And thank you for reading my blog!
I think that it’s cool finding out what you look like!
Oh, and I’m Annaliese/Elaine/that person who talks with you randomly on NaNo.
*laughs evilly* But really… I LOOK LIKE VOLDEMORT!!! That isn’t me at all! 😛
Gee, I would have never figured that out on my own… 😉
‘Allo,
I’m dragonfirehurts, from the NaNoWriMo young writers program. I’ve seen you on a couple of the forums, and dropped by your blog. All that is encompassed in the last sentence is probably fairly obvious by now.
Anyway, I didn’t want to comment anywhere else because I haven’t read the Harry Potter series yet (planning to soon, just have to finish Modern Times). That would be rather awkward, but I was interested in making your acquaintance.
Thank you, have a nice day, and stop by the concessions stand on the way out.
Liam, Head Phil, aka dragonfirehurts
*recognizes the username* Hey, I was just reading your blog… I love it! And I hope you love HP!
Thanks! I hope so too.
I love your blog. You’re way cooler than I was when I was your age (and wow, that makes me sound so old!).
Thanks!
I think you’re awesome!!! You’re like, so nice and if i knew you, you’d definitely be my friend, seriously!
LittleBlackDawg 🙂
Ahaha, thank you! 🙂
I am themagicviolinist’s mom and she told me about your blog. I have to say I’m impressed. And if you weren’t several states away, I think you and themagicviolinist would enjoy spending time together. You’re right (I’ve been reading your political posts) – most people assume homeschoolers are religious, conservative Republicans. That’s an unfair stereotype. You don’t fit it and neither do we. We started a homeschool group in our area that is inclusive — meaning all are welcome — because all that existed before were Christian groups, Catholic groups, Mennonite groups . . . you get the idea. It’s nice to have a group for “the rest of us.” Anyway, great blog! I enjoyed your posts about the election. Also? We’re huge Harry Potter fans, too, but I’m guessing TMV already told you that. 😉
Thank you! ^_^
My family was also in an inclusive homeschool group because most of the other groups nearby were extremely conservative and Christian, which isn’t a bad thing, but they didn’t really want you there if you weren’t like them. I guess technically we’re still in the group, but we don’t participate much anymore because they don’t have many activities for high school students.
Awww, that’s a shame. Our group has a growing number or teens and is VERY active, so if you ever move to PA, you are very welcome to join us! We’d love to have you! 🙂
😀
Er, “of,” not “or.” We’re a family of writers. Really.
Ehehe, it’s OK! 🙂
Hey, just wanted to say what an awesome bio this was! Made me laugh so much – and with school right now it was much needed. I especially love the Sarah Palin costume story 🙂
Thanks! I loved that costume…
And your blog is cool too!

Hello Nevilllegirl!
Anyway.
I’m going to read your blog when I get the chance.
But I did this so I’ll be more likely to remember. XD
Thank you!
Why, hello again, Nevillegirl! I have nominated you for a blog award here.
http://themeepingkoala.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/awesome-things-challenge/
Thanks!
And another one. XD http://themeepingkoala.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/sisterhood-of-the-world/#more-528
Thanks!
Hey, you changed it! You no longer look like Hermione…
no, I’m not just going through looking at all the pages, what are you talking about.Nope! I found an Eowyn picture for another post and was like, “Hey, I can use this somewhere else…”
Ha ha, I do that too! Whenever I find a cool blog I obviously read some of the recent posts but I also look at the pages ’cause sometimes there’s cool stuff there. Have you seen some of the weirdness on Liam’s pages?
Hehe, yeah. The Writer’s Bane…
*looks at Nevillegirl’s page again* I didn’t know you’d won five Nobel peace prizes. What were they for?
Babbling, Stick-Figure Art, Humor, Annoying Family Members by Incessantly Talking About Fantasy, and Procrastination. 🙂
Ooh, you’re Eowyn now! Cool! In the picture you used, it looks like you’re about to scream ‘This is SPARTA!!!’. Or at least it does to me.
I got tired of being Hermione. xD
Hello, Nevillegirl! I just thought I’d pop over and thank you for looking at my blog. I’ve seen you over at Miriam Joy’s occasionally, but I’ve never come here myself. *Looks around casually* Nice place ya got here. 😉
PS. High-five for Slytherin-ness!
Why, thank you! Actually I was just looking at yours because I saw your comment on Miriam’s latest post.
Ah, yes. I’ve known Miriam for a while, so I tend to comment on most of her pages. 🙂
Same here.

Thank you!! *blush* I guess… I guess maybe that is me. I /do/ write pretty much whatever I think on here….
Anyway. I’ve already received this award so I probably won’t do the post that goes along with it, but thanks for the thought!
P.S. I’ve neglected reading your blog… I should probably get back to that! 😛 The last few posts that I just read were lovely.
My pleasure! And feel free to not do it, haha, I totally understand- I think you deserve the recognition, that’s why I nominated you 🙂
In response to P.S. Oh dearie I’ve neglecting yours as well, I’ve been reading but not commenting so I must go back and do that 😛 And thank you!
I nominated you for The Sunshine Award. I’m not sure if you’ve gotten the award before but I do really enjoy your posts. http://taratherese.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/the-sunshine-award/
I… actually don’t think I’ve gotten that award before, but I’m not sure if/when I’ll be able to fit the post for that in! Anyway, thank you so much! 🙂
*blush* Aw, thank you! I really enjoy your blog too. 🙂
Hi, Engie! (It sounds so cute!) Thanks for stopping by my blog and following. 🙂 Your blog looks awesome; I’m gonna stalk it now. 😛 I’m an atheist *high five* And I totally support the LGBTQ+ community.
I love the title of your blog. So creative. Anyway, to wrap up my comment, super cool blog. Can’t wait to get to know you better!
(Ack, sorry for responding to this comment so late – I was at work all day today and didn’t see it until just now…)
Ahaha, Engie sounds cute? *blush*
Thank you!
It’s nice to find other atheists. 😀 And people who support LGBTQ+, too. 🙂
Thanks again! I can’t wait to get to know you, too!
WAIT ELEVEN BOOKSHELVES??? How did I miss that part my first time reading this page? I need eleven bookshelves. I only have one. Which is very sad.
*squee* I have been known to ask about the ability of a purse to fit books, too! 😀 *high-fives* Which is why it’s useful to have an e-reader, I guess, because they’re so tiny 😛 Although I do prefer actual books.
This has been a nice break. Now back to doing homework (and why is my dog barking so loud?)
YES ELEVEN BOOKSHELVES. ELEVEN GLORIOUS BOOKSHELVES. (And… you poor thing! With only one! 😦 *patpat*)
(And… I’m running out of room on my bookshelves, though. Oh noes!)
I almost always have at least one book in my purse at any given time. 😛
I’m glad you enjoyed it. xD
I nominated you for an award! https://freeasagirlwithwings.wordpress.com/2014/10/13/sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-award/
Thank you! I’ve received this one before, actually, so I won’t be doing the post for it, but thank you anyway! 🙂 ❤
Hi! It’s LilyBS123 from NaNo (though I’m not sure whether you’ve seen me around on the forums).
Oh, hello! Um… I’ve seen you around before, but I don’t think we’ve ever talked before! 🙂 Nice to meet you! (And thanks for following my blog!)
You’re welcome! 🙂
Hi Engie! So nice to meet you. I think Paolini was homeschooled, wasn’t he?
Yes, he was. 🙂
I think I’m like Eragon, you know.
Annoying?
Kidding, kidding. Well. Not really. I didn’t particularly like that series…*laughs* Funny you should say that! I kinda disliked the series too, and he always got on my nerves. The dragon was annoying too.
Yeah. It’s a perfect example of a series with an excellent premise that just went… nowhere. Basically, one of those books/series that make me think of all the things I would’ve done differently if I’d written them. Oh, well.
I agree. Went nowhere. And in a boring way, too. Would you have had Eragon die?
Probably. Incinerated by dragon breath or something.
*laughs* Too noble of a death!
I’ve nominated you for the One Lovely Blog award! http://stayandwatchthestars.wordpress.com/2015/01/01/one-lovely-blog-award/
Aw, thank you so much! I’ve received it before, actually, so I’ll have to pass on doing the post for it. But thanks anyway! 🙂
(Happy New Year!)
Hey Engie! Don’t know if you’ve already received this one (wouldn’t be surprised) but I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award:
https://allthingswordy.wordpress.com/2015/02/04/the-liebster-award-dearest-sweetest-kindest/
Thanks! I’ve received it a few times, actually, but thanks so much for thinking of me! 🙂

Thanks! I’ve actually already done a post for this award (a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away) so I won’t be doing it again, but I appreciate the thought so much! 🙂 *high-fives*
Your welcome (: *high-fives back*
Doctor Who!!! YES!!! do you watch Sherlock? 🙂
Yeah, I have. Didn’t like it at all, though – Elementary is more of my “thing.”
Haha it’s alright

You have SUCH a cool blog here and I am honestly in awe *picks up jaw from floor*
